A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the NSS Unit of the Institute on the occasion of ‘Vijay Divas. 50 NSS volunteers, students, and Staff members participated in the blood donation drive. Four doctors and six nurses from Inlaks Budharani Hospital Blood Bank offered their valuable services to the camp.
Dr. B H Nanwani, Director in her inaugural speech, encouraged all the donors by saying “Gift of Blood is a Gift of Life”. While addressing the first-time donors, Dr. Nanwani created an awareness about the shortage of blood and the need to donate blood every year. Donation of blood is a great service or contribution to society as it can save precious lives.
The rejection of a few willing donors, 18 pints of blood were collected. The NSS volunteers helped with registrations and looking after the welfare of the donors. Mr Prakash, in charge of Inlaks Budharani Hospital Blood Bank – appreciated the work of NSS volunteers. The staff of Inlaks Budharani Hospital Blood Bank thanked our NSS volunteer girls’ team for their quick response and energy.
Mahabaleshwar Seva Program

A need analysis was undertaken in Giristhan Nagar Parishad Schools, Tapola, Mahableshwar which made volunteers realise that the economically disadvantaged students missed school owing to non-availability of winter wear – jackets. To encourage them in their pursuit of education, Sadhu Vaswani Mission, our Founding Body and SVIMS as a constituent of SVM undertook a seva programme, wherein students were given winter wear and Joy kits (Savory Packet, Toffies, Rajgira Chikki, Chocolate, Cream biscuits)

Our students, Ms Sheetal Pisal narrated anecdotes from the life of Sadhu Vaswani with the objective of imparting some moral and human values to the young students.

Dr Abhijeet Kaiwade, PO, NSS, and 9 student volunteers participated in the seva programme. They were deeply impacted and developed sensitivities of understanding what is deprivation and returned with a sense of gratitude of the bounties with which they are blessed.
NSS Seven Days/Night Special CAMP Report
5th January to 11th January 2023
National Scheme Service [NSS] Special Camp was organized from 5th January to 11th January 2022 at Awhalwadi Village, Taluka Haveli, District Pune [18.5574933 N, 73.9809714 E].

NSS works mainly on the principle of NOT ME BUT YOU. The candidates who are involved in its activities work together with the people of the village for the benefit of society, environmental protection, health & cleanliness, and help people in times of emergency /natural calamities. National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored programme under the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and NSS Cell, Higher and Technical Education, Govt. of Maharashtra, initiated primarily to inculcate the spirit of participation in nation-building through social work among the students.
Orientation Programme for Volunteers
2nd January, 2023
Dr Abhijeet Kaiwade, NSS Programme Officer gathered all the volunteers for an Orientation session from 3:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M. In the session, the PO explained to the volunteers the importance of NSS camp, role of volunteers, the schedule of the camp and the tasks that the volunteers must carry out.
Volunteers were also informed about the rules and duties to be followed in the camp, dress code, and other essentials required for the camp. Senior volunteers shared their experiences and spoke about Dos and Don’ts in the Camp.

The faculty coordinators distributed Consent Forms to be signed by the parents of the volunteers. In the end, faculty coordinators asked the volunteers to assemble by 12:30 PM on 5th October 2023 to leave from Institute to the camp. Finally, the session ended with excitement and enthusiasm of the 25 volunteers who had consented to be a part of the NSS Special Camp.

Retire for the day
The main objective of the camp was to evolve the volunteers as humane agents of social change. The thrust was on activities and lectures that help the volunteers to work for the community, in the community and with the community. Multifarious interactive sessions, workshops, demonstrations, and lectures were held in order to educate the volunteers about certain social, physical, psychological and political phenomenon. Each day began with various interactive sessions, guest lectures as well as field work.
Cleanliness Drive
Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, we cleaned following area and sensitized devotees and villagers about the need and importance cleanliness of our surrounding areas and minimum use of Plastic products like carry bags under the Plastic Free India Campaign.

Our volunteers went to different places in the village and interacted with villager people, and discussed about following:
Domestic violence against women​
The volunteers organized a rally from Gram Panchayat to Datta Mandir [densely populated areas of Awhalwadi] carrying posters on domestic violence, rights of women and created awareness through slogans like “Jab Dekho Koi Atyachaar, Seeti Bajao Shor Machao”. On reaching the Datta Mandir, they attracted the residents’ attention and asked them to watch the street play on domestic violence.
Voter Awareness and Constitutional Rights
Constitutional rights of Indian citizens and importance of casting vote at the time of election for fair election process was discussed. The session was conducted by Mr. Kakasaheb Satav, member Gram Panchayat.
Soil & Water Conservation and Rainwater Harvesting
Created awareness amongst the local people who are farmers about organic farming and its importance. The volunteers actively participated in this awareness drive. The volunteers went from door to door and explained the importance of organic farming.
Tree plantation and Nurturing existing planted trees
Tree plantation and Swachh Bharat programmes were held at Samashan Tekdi. The volunteers actively participated in the tree plantation programme and cleaning of the pits of the planted trees. The faculty members also explained about the importance and the objective of tree plantation and Swachh Bharat.
Free Eye Checkup Camp
Dr Vaibhav Gadhave from K K Eye Institute, Budrani Hospital, visited the NSS camp for Eye check-up drive. 45 Villagers took benefit and 15 cataract patients were identified. Dr B H Nanwani, Director, SVIMS offered them cataract operation at minimal cost.
Gender Sensitivity Session
The session was to sensitize the villagers on gender issues, to help them be aware of gender biases, to help them resolve interpersonal conflicts arising from gender issues and to enable them to act assertively and respond to challenges in workplace i.e. field or office. The session was conducted by Dr Divya Lakhani.
Environment and Biodiversity
The volunteers visited the Domkhel Wasti Park, Awhalwadi, and put up posters, made by the volunteers, depicting the IMPORTANCE OF PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT. They went around the Domkhel Wasti Park and saw different species of trees, birds, and animals. They admired the place, amidst nature. The session was conducted by Mr Kakasaheb Satav, a member of Gram Panchayat on the role of gram panchayat in environmental protection.

The volunteers also performed a street play at 7: 30 PM in Shri Nilkantheshwar temple. The skit was about GIRL EDUCATION and was based on a central government scheme – “BETI BACHAO, BETI PADAO”. They created awareness among the people and encouraged the parents to educate their girl child. They ended the skit with slogans on girls education in different languages. This was followed by cultural programs – Mehndi and Rangoli with villagers.

The volunteers visited the ZP Primary School, Awhalwadi where the volunteers spread awareness on the above topics. It was indeed an amazing interactive session with the young minds and their perspectives regarding POSH. The volunteers also did exceptional work in providing awareness to school students on health and hygiene.
Concluding Programme
11th January, 2023
On 11 January 2023, the valedictory ceremony was graced by Gram Panchayat Members – Mr. Mangesh Satav, Mr Amol Awhal, MrPrashant Satav, Mrs Anushka Satav, Ms Sonali Dhabhade, Mr. Umesh Awhal, Kakasaheb Awhal and Mr Shahaji Awhal, Chairman Khandoba Prasadik Dindi and Awhalwadi Villagers.

The Seven Day NSS Camp was concluded by our Director, Dr. B H Nanwani. Her words motivated volunteers when she names of volunteers and applauded each one’s work. Dr. Nanwani shared her personal experiences and the way the Institute has been exercising the practices related to outreach programmes, seva programs, and management support for such activities. Dr. Nanwani concluded her speech with a beautiful quote by Dada J P Vaswani “DO as much good as you can, to as many as you can and as long as you can!” and thus boosted the spirits of the volunteers.

Conclusion: At the end of the Special Camp, the volunteers compiled a note on the various problems faced by the villagers. All the events that took place during the Special Camp have been captured and made into a documentary, by few of the volunteers of the camp. For the first time, SVIMS will be releasing a documentary, to ensure that the work of the NSS Unit and the problems faced by villagers reaches a larger audience.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized by the NSS Unit of the Institute, In collaboration with the Junior & Youth Indian Red Cross Society. The volunteers, students, Staff members of SVIMS, and Staff members of AMDOCs participated in the blood donation drive. Four doctors and six nurses from Inlaks Budharani Hospital Blood Bank offered their valuable services to the camp.

Mr Hrishikesh Moundekar, Lead Solution Architect, AMDOCS in his inaugural speech, encouraged all the donors by saying “Donate blood and be the reason for someone’s existence”. While addressing the first-time donors, Mr Hrishikesh created awareness about the shortage of blood and the need to donate blood every year. Donation of blood is a great service or contribution to society as it can save precious lives.
The camp was set up in the institute’s activity area, which was transformed into a fully-equipped donation center with all necessary medical equipment and supplies. The team of doctors and nurses from Inlaks Budhrani Hospital were present to manage the donation process and ensure the safety and well-being of all donors.

The camp was well-received by the community, and there was a steady flow of donors throughout the day. The donors underwent a thorough medical check-up, including a blood pressure check, hemoglobin test, and a brief medical history review, to ensure that they were fit to donate blood. In total, 87 units of blood were collected during the camp, which will be used to save lives and improve the health of patients in need. The blood donation camp was a huge success, and we would like to thank all the donors, volunteers, and organizers who made it possible. We hope to continue organizing such camps in the future and encourage more people to donate blood and save lives.

Cleanliness Drive for Swachh Bharat 2021 –Swachhata Abhiyan
Swachhata Abhiyan Activity Details

“Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” is an initiative by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi as a nationwide cleanliness campaign. It was launched on 2nd October 2014, on the birthday of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi with a vision and mission of a clean India.
As a part of community outreach day, Dr. Abhijeet Kaiwade, PO, NSS, Ms. Adolphina, Student coordinator, and 4 NSS student volunteers along with Sadhu Vaswani Mission volunteers visited Village Jambarung, Dolvali, Tal Ambivali, Dist Raigharh 410201. This village is under the category of tribal village under the 16th Rashtriya Jan Ganana February 2021 (Census 2021).
Sadhu Vaswani Mission, a non-profit organization, is a registered charitable institution headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra. The Mission, in pursuance of the values lived by the Great Masters — Gurudev Sadhu Vaswani and Rev. Dada J.P. Vaswani, is engaged in an array of activities which includes (but is not restricted to) — education, healthcare, community service, soup kitchens, Dada Bhandara (langars), Jeev daya (service of birds and animals), publications and spiritual upliftment (daily satsangs).
The ‘Swachhta abhiyan’ activities were carried out under strict COVID protocols. Student volunteers cleaned the area before conducting activities for children. They encouraged the children to keep the area clean and set an example for their elders.
Poshan Abhiyan at Jambarung village

This year SVIMS celebrated Poshan Abhiyan on 18th September 2021. Addressing nutritional challenges through Food diversity and organizing Poshan Panchayats were the key focus areas for Poshan Abhiyan, 2021. SVIMS implemented the flagship programme ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ to improve the nutritional status of children of Jambarung tribals. Ms Meenal Balumwar (Diploma in Food and Nutrition), SVIMS NSS student volunteer interacted with mothers in the villages to raise awareness and improve the nutritional index of women and children along with the Doctor from Sadhu Vaswani Ashram Medical Centre, Lonavala.
They also distributed multivitamins and folic tablets to needy mothers which was provided by Sadhu Vaswani Mission. This activity helped children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Ration kits(consisting of Rice, Dal, Poha, Oil, Mung, Chana, Atta, Haldi, Rai-Jeera, Masala etc) were provided by Sadhu Vaswani Mission.
Session On Menstrual Hygiene

SVIMS NSS team coordinated with the Red Cross India and St. Gadge Maharaj Vasti Samaj Mandir to conduct a session on menstrual hygiene for women at Gadge Maharaj Vasti on 18 October 2021.

Dr. Namita Pathak accompanied the SVIMS Faculty and NSS team. She was invited to conduct the session which she graciously accepted.

Dr. Abhijeet Kaiwade, HOD, SVIMS, and Sonali Joshi, Assistant Professor, along with student coordinators arranged and coordinated the session for the women population. Dr. Kaiwade inaugurated the event by welcoming all the attendees and our guest speaker, Dr. Namita Pathak.

Dr. Pathak effectively communicated the need and necessity of menstrual hygiene. She made effective use of models that reflected various menstrual products – traditional as well as newly introduced ones.

She also emphasized the effective birth control solutions available for enhancing family planning.

The attendees were also informed about various governmental schemes available for family planning and maintaining menstrual health and hygiene.

Dr. B H Nanwani, Director SVIMS, along with the other faculty members joined in the session and contributed to the session by sharing their words of wisdom and experience.

Towards the end, there was an open house session for the attendees to ask any of their queries.

The students and faculty discussed the ideas for the street play a fortnight before the event. It was heartening to see the feelings that flowed amongst the students to the theme of the street play.

With the Director’s permission and guidance, the Koregaon Park Police Station was approached for permission to hold a rally from the Institute to the Gadge Maharaj Vasti.

The students blew whistles throughout the rally with the slogan “Jab Dekho Koi Atyachaar, Seeti Bajao Shor Machao”.

On reaching the Vasti, the students walked in the bylanes of the Vasti, attracting the residents’ attention and asking them to come and watch the street play.

The students then performed on the street which captured the attention of women and children alike.

The Police Representative, Constable Samarth Shide, helped in controlling the traffic so that our goal could be achieved.

The Rally returned to SVIMS with a feeling of contentment, having shared with women at the Vasti the need to be self-dependent for their children and their security. The message given to everyone was that silence gives wings to abusers. Therefore, voicing injustice is important.
Sinhgad Fort Cleaning and Khadakwasla River Cleaning Drive

Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies’ NSS unit undertook a cleanliness drive under the aegis of Savitribai Phule Pune University’s NSS Fort and Heritage Cleanliness Programme on 26th February 2022.

Under this activity, 14 NSS volunteers and 2 faculty members participated and undertook the following initiatives:

Cleaning of fort premises – Tanaji Malusare Samadhi, Amruteshwar and Hanuman Mandir, Kalyan Darwaja, and Khadakwasla Bank of River. Students cleaned the mentioned area, collected plastic waste, etc.

Poshan Pakhwada

This year, Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies for Girls celebrated Poshan Pakhwada Abhiyan from 21st March 2022 to 4th April 2022. Addressing, identifying & celebrating Healthy Children and integrating modern and traditional practices for healthy India organizing Poshan Panchayats were the key focus areas for Poshan Pakhwada, 2022.

Activities were planned during the month of March as an initiative response to the pressing concern on malnutrition, stunting, anemia, low birth weight, and other nutrition-related problems to raise awareness and improve the nutritional index of women and children at Sant Gadge Maharaj Vasti, Koregaon Park, Pune. Such activities help children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers by leveraging guidance through targeted approaches and convergence.

Inauguration of Dindi
23rd June 2022
Dindi and witnessed a drama in remembrance of our forgotten heroes – the Chapekar Brothers- Damodar Hari Chapekar, Balkrishna & Vasudeo (22nd June 1897 ).
The NSS student volunteers also participated in Vriksha Dindi[ Tree Plantation] Students sang NSS Song, Bhajans, and Abhangas and danced like Warkaris in SPPU premises.
Art and craft workshop for small kids of Jambarung
4 NSS student volunteers under the community engagement took a session on an art and craft workshop for small tribal kids of Jambarung village. Student volunteers interacted with these small kids and taught them origami by using paper. Art and crafts are the most important way to help small kids to grow & develop. This happens with positive results when they paint, color, glue, and cut. 120 tribal kids from the nearby area of Jambarung village participated in this activity. They were very happy after this activity.
At the end of the activity, students distributed the Joy packets (packets including crayon colors, cream biscuits, Savoury packets, toffies, and Rajgira chikki) provided by the Sadhu Vaswani Mission (SVM). Children thanked SVM & SVIMS student volunteers. NSS volunteers conducted this workshop as schools have been closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic. Non-availability of resources and poor or nearly no network in these areas have created obstacles for these children in their education.
First Aid Training with Sadhu Vaswani Ashram Medical Centre, RED CROSS Society at Jambarung Village
A training programme on First Aid was organized at Jambarung tribal village in association with RED Cross Society and Dr Farhat Haindade from Sadhu Vaswani Ashram Medical Centre, Lonavala. Sadhu Vaswani Ashram Medical Centre kept the First Aid Kit(Cotton, Dettol, Bandage, soframycin cream) at the community open place. Later volunteers explained how to use this kit, wound care, how to use bandages, how to manage everyday minor accidents, minor cuts, grazes, bleeding and burns, snake bites, etc. They also assured villagers of ambulance service from Sadhu Vaswani Ashram Medical Centre
SVIMS Green Army – Tree Plantation

Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies for Girls Pune celebrated ‘Green Army’. Dr. B.H. Nanwani (Director) along with Students, Parents, faculty members, and administrative staff participated in this ‘Tree Plantation’ drive, on 8th August 2021, at Holkarwadi forest land, Phursungi, Pune. Samajik Vanikar Nursury Aundh, Pune provided us 2-year-old 60 samplings of medicinal plants-Awala, Kadulimb, Pipal, Wad, Babul, etc Indian fruits – Shitaphal, Mango, Shewga, etc and Rain tree plants. We prepared 2X2X2 pits for planting the sapling, for plantation drive administrative staff, Mr. Shinde Parent, Staff of Samajik Vanikaran, Watchman & Guard participated.
