Research Cell and Ph.D. Research Centre 

The IPR and Research cell was established in July 2012 to primarily promote Research among faculty and students and enhance quality publications. The long-term objective was to set up a Ph.D. Research Centre 

 

The Ph.D. Research Centre[Affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University]  was formally started in 2018 with one Ph.D Scholar. Today it has 33 Ph.D. Scholars and 10 Research Guides [Internal and Associate guides]. Scholars can take up doctoral work in different domains of Management such as Financial Management, HR, Marketing Management, Organisational Management, and Computer Management.

PhD Coursework – Research Methodology Part 1

The Ph.D. Centre conducted the PhD Coursework[2 Credits],  a pre-requisite for all the candidates who have registered for the PhD program. The coursework prepares the candidate for undertaking Research work and includes the Foundation of Research, Research Methodology, Research Writing and Presentation Skills, and Research Ethics.

 

PhD Coursework was conducted at SVIMS from 10th to 20th October 2022.  The participants were our own PhD Scholars and PhD aspirants from Research Centres and Institutes in Pune.  The PhD Coursework was inaugurated by Dr. B.H. Nanwani, Director SVIMS, and Dr. Parag Kalkar, Hon. Dean, Faculty of Management and Commerce and Director SBS. Dr. Nanwani and Dr. Kalkar set the platform with their inputs and expectations from the research scholars. More than 25 experts from TISS, SPPU, MMK College IDOL College, Mumbai, and various B-Schools in and around Pune City were invited to enlighten the participants,  on various topics of Research Methodology. The sessions started with theoretical explanations such as an introduction to Research Paradigms, objectives, hypothesis formulation, and hypothesis testing.

 

Sampling Methods and Statistical techniques were dealt with by the experts by taking live examples and data so that the participants could get hands-on experience in deciding the appropriate sample and sampling techniques as well as the statistical method and tools. The participants were exposed to developing a questionnaire using ProQuest, which could be useful in their respective research. The research scholars learned about plagiarism, research ethics, and do’s and don’ts so that their research documents are free from plagiarized content.

 

Finally, the experts demonstrated how to find authentic journals and gave them more input on the writing and publication of research papers and theses. The feedback given by the candidates on the valedictory

 session showed that they were very happy with all the sessions and that they could apply the learning, during their course of research journey. One of the candidates suggested that the coursework should be conducted before the topic of the Ph.D. The coursework was concluded with a Vote of Thanks during the Valedictory Function.

Workshop on SPSS

Workshop on “Hands on SPSS” was arranged in association with SPPU. SPSS is a widely used by the research scholars and PhD aspirants for data analysis. The workshop was conducted so that the participants could get an Hands-on experience and are empowered to use SPSS independently for their research.

 

Dr. Amod Markale was the resources person for the entire 5 Day Hands on SPSS Workshop. On the first day he explained to the participants the basics statistics concepts like Frequency, Correlation, Regression, to name a few. On the second day he explained to them the SPSS Software. He started by explaining the variable or the data sheet. With the help of a questionnaire, he explained the various variables and how these are coded in SPSS sheet. The first assignment that he gave to the candidates was based on this learning. The third day began with an explanation of statistical analysis which can be performed using the software. The forth and the fifth day, the participants could get a hands on the statical analysis using SPSS. In the second assignment, the participants were given large data and they were supposed to analyze the same using SPSS tools. The session concluded with a Q and A session where all the doubts of the participants were solved.

Online Workshop on Applying for Research Grant

Applying for Grants is not a option anymore for Researchers and Research Scholars. It is an essential skill for contemporary researchers. This Workshop was organized with the aim that researchers will have a clear idea of how to proceed with seeking funding for their project.

 

Prof. D. Vishnumurty, Dean, Aditya Institute of Technology and Management and Chief Coordinator of ED cell and Business Incubation Center was the resource person for the workshop.

First, he shared his views on the current management research. He said that contemporary management research played an important role in businesses and business growth. In the second part of his lecture, he elaborated on the various governmental funding agencies like AICTE, UGC, EDII, DST and non-governmental bodies like Skill Development Corporation of India and State Departments. He described various available schemes of the governmental and non-governmental bodies, where Management Faculty can apply for funding. He explained about grants for faculty Training, Quality Improvement program, Research Promotion, Idea Lab, Conferences, Major and Minor Research Projects.

The next part of his session dealt with writing research proposals. He emphasized that focus should be on a clear objective, relevance of the outcome, a well-defined timeline and detailed budget with justification wherever required. He further explained the importance of a research eco-system in an Institute with internet and library resources like journals and e-resources available for research purpose, affiliation or membership to bodies like AIMA and mentors for research study guidance. He mentioned that Institutes applying for Grant need to be listed under UGC 2 (f) 12(B).

He explained the process of application for the funds. He mentioned that the processes and funding availability are mentioned on the websites of various funding agencies. He concluded by reiterating ethics in research.
