Topic: Standing Orders
Mr. Ajay Kulkarni currently looks after the NIPM (National Institute of Personnel Management) Pune chapter, in addition to spearheading various other activities. His Industrial work experience of 35 years is spread across various companies like Tata Group, Hindustan Unilever, Mahyco Seeds Limited and Finolex Plasson Industries at different levels from Management Trainee to Head HR.
Mr. Kulkarni discussed the implementation of statuary, model standing orders as per, The Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1961, and barriers one can anticipate while practising the standing orders.
He also detailed the important steps/ phases’ that one needs to observe while framing the policies as per the standing order and explained the rights and obligations of workers and employers. Mr. Kulkarni supported his points with interesting industry examples and also answered doubts raised by the students.

In a step to provide a strong industry
In a step to provide a strong industry–academic connection, mentoring, and hand-holding by senior industry professionals, Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies for Girls [SVIMS] inaugurated a Student Chapter of the National Institute of Personnel Management on 8th March. The move will help students stay abreast of the latest in HR management and become industry-ready, said Dr. B. Nanwani, Director, SVIMS. She further mentioned that activities and Programmes were lined up to help students enhance their skills and professionalism.
The function was attended by Vice Chairman, Dr. (Capt.) C.M. Chitale, Executive Committee members, Mr. Sunil Neve, Ms. Kavita Kalikar [Director Ognibene India Limited, Pune], and others. Mr. Neve outlined the role of NIPM in spreading knowledge on practices, techniques, and methods of HRM, while Capt. Chitale emphasized the importance of the right attitudes, skills, and knowledge in the life of students. He also emphasized that students should work daily on self-improvement to become competent. Ms. Kalikar spoke of the ingredients of success while narrating her journey from a frontline employee to the Director of an MNC. Ms. Kalikar consented to mentoring the students to help their smooth transition from campus to corporates.
