1. Webinar on “Empowering Women through Education”:
“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.” Kofi Annan Sadhu Vaswani Institute of Management Studies for Girls has worked on living the quote of Mr. Kofi Annan and this time has organised a webinar on “Empowering Women through Education” on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, [1st October 2020, from 11am to 12:30pm.] The event started off with Ms Harshali Chandgadkar’s talk on Gandhian thoughts on Women Empowerment. Mr. Kanav Chavan, Founder of YUG Foundation, an NGO which works for Women Hygiene and Women Empowerment after introducing YUG Foundation and its work in the field of menstrual health and safety, focused on how important this issue was from the perspective of empowering girls with education, as mensuration was a major reason for school dropouts. His take on empowering women by first educating men towards their responsibilities and also the need for women to become sensitive towards other women was a fresh perspective towards dealing with the issue. He emphasized on the need to equalize chores at home first by not tagging men’s contribution as an occasional ‘help’, but making it a habit. His talk was very refreshing as he was representing the ‘men’ in ‘women’, striving towards empowering women. The talk was followed by Dr. B H Nanwani’s address which focussed majorly on strengthening the will of girls to march towards their dreams and make them a reality. She appreciated Mr. Kanav Chavan on the work accomplished by YUG foundation. The floor was then opened for an intriguing Q and A session followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Smita Iyer.
